Welcome to the CMU

We have 150 people communicating on our Discord server. Here was our introductory letter.

Welcome to the Colorado Musicians.

He everybody, I’m pumped to start this year off with a project like this. This group is for new and old faces to communicate with organizers, members, and prospective members. We are fortunate to be working with the Denver Democratic Socialists of America (Denver DSA) and their team of organizers working under the DSA Labor Committee. They’ve helped us construct a small team of musicians, labor organizers, music-workers, and venues, spanning from Denver, Boulder, and Fort Collins, all of which are committing to play for no less than $100/person/night. There are no dues, no insurance benefits, etc. This union is unique in that it has multiple shared employers vs a single shared employer. Instead of using the strike tactic as a threat, we operate in a state of constant hold-out, but one that allows us to simultaneously work for more money and to form financial solidarity for our musician and music-worker comrades. The more musicians, music-workers, bands, venues, etc that join our union, the less options non-union venues will have to hire, and pay below a living wage, thus improving our chances of being hired for the minimum price the union has committed to, $100/person/night. Our first steps are to train our earliest members into canvassers. Canvassers are advocates of the union who actively seek to add new members to the union. First we must train them on a zoom session, probably 20 minutes of lecture, 10 minutes of “what on earth is happening on earth”, etc.. etc. Those interested in canvassing, please visit the #canvassing thread in our discord server and indicate you would like to sign up for a zoom training session. Remember, we are lifetime musicians, but we’re all new to organizing!
